Welcome back! A while back, I did part one of my way to fix Metroid prime 4. I picked the eight issues I had with the game last time. After stewing in it for a while, I am ready to tell you all about how I would fix the game.
Sol Valley
The first issue is Sol Valley. To me there are two ways to fix this zone. The first one is to make it like the other zones. It could be like a middle eastern like city with little houses to go in to get power ups and items. The other way that the temple would be like the Taj Mahal. The second option is that Sol Valley doesn’t exist at all. I think that the second potion is best. Sol Valley was a waste of time.
Zones/Map
With Sol Valley no longer around, how would Samus get around? The developers should had taken cues from prime 1 and dread. Samus should have use both trains and elevators to get around. The point of Metroid is when to get stuck or can’t move any move, to have to go to another area to get an ability to move on. The other problem is that the zones were too linear. It was too straight forward. They needed twist and turns. The zones needed to be connected together.
Shrines
The shrines was a good idea. They didn’t need for all of them to be in Sol Valley. They should have been one shrine in each zone. The shrines in each zones need to be well hidden. Once inside you need to do more than just solve a simple puzzle. Samus need to fight foes and solve tougher puzzles. Also a couple of the shrines should have a mini boss to fight.
Lack of Villains
I was angry that there were so few enemies to fight. None of the space pirates didn’t teleport to the world too. Fighting more of the wolves in the ice belt area would have been nice. The game needs more types of enemies to take on.
Vehicles
As I said the last time, the opening when Samus was flying her gunship was awesome. Why couldn’t I fly the gunship in the game? Maybe the gunship could have teleport with Samus. I wanted a part of the game that you had to fly your gunship. Let’s said that both the trains and elevators wasn’t working. Maybe Sylux cut the power out. You have to use the gunship to get around and restore the power. You can get into fights with flying enemies. Just think about flying and you have to fight your arch nemesis Ridley you just pop up from nowhere. I am surprised that never happen in a Metroid game yet.
I love mechas. Why couldn’t I control one? Imagine fighting battling Kraid while inside a mech. Like Doom the dark ages for example.
NPCs
i know the reason that Miles and the others was in the game. They wanted to appeal to a bigger audience. Yet it didn’t work out. The Metroid series is about isolation. You are trap in a strange world, and you have to battle your way out. Samus need to be alone in the game. If they wanted to help the player if he or she gets stuck, they could have an AI computer on board the gunship. The player would have the option to ask the computer for a hint.
Ending
This part will have minor spoilers to it. The ending was sad which I was okay with. The part that ticks me off is the reason why Sylux is mad at Samus. I will not spoil it but it was his fault for what happen not Samus. I will agree with most fans and that sylux should be Samus’ brother. It would add more impact to the story.
Gameplay/Combat
The gameplay was fine for what it is, but it did feel outdated. Why the screw attack wasn’t in the game. Also why the shine spark from dread wasn’t an ability as well? The parry from dread also should be an ability too. I know that the movement and combat is supposed to be slow, but they could have speed it up some. They should have learn from dread.
What is the future for the prime series? We don’t know how much as the has sold. Nintendo didn’t release the numbers. To be fair, the game came out last December. With the president of Retro Studios has left last year, the future of the series is cloudy right now. Will Nintendo green light the next game in the series? Will they let Retro make it or they get another Studio to make prime 5. Maybe just maybe Nintendo will end the series and Metroid will just be 2D for now on. Will have to wait and see.
