I have reviewed three of the resident evil CGI movies. Now I will review the final one. That is damnation. I wanted to write this back in June but then I was covering all of the shows and I forget about it. Earlier today I watched it again. Damnation came out in 2012. It is the sequel to Degeneration that came out in 2008 and is a prequel to Resident Evil 6. Like with Degeneration, this is the other RE CGI movie I own. When I first watch it years ago, I didn’t like it. In fact I hated it. That was years ago. Did I change my mind about it? This is my mostly spoiler free review.
The movie takes place in a fictional eastern European country. Rumors have it that the government is using Bio organic weapons in the war. Leon S Kennedy now a U.S. agent is sent to investigate undercover if bioweapons are being used. When the government orders him to leave, Leon disobeys the order and carries on with his mission. Back then, one of the issues I had was with the pacing. I still have issues with it today. It is too slow of me, especially during the first act.
The fight scenes are the same as the other movies. The supporting cast was alright of the most part. They were one character that was annoying as all hell. For the CGI itself, it was better than regeneration. It was clearer and the characters didn’t look like clay. One thing that I will spoil is that Ada Wong is in the movie. I will not spoil what her role is. I will say that the one on one fight that Ada had was the best fight and best moment of the film. When you see it, I will believe me. I wish that were more interaction between Leon and Ada. The story is just a political thriller at its core. I am not into those types of stories.
Overall the movie is a little better than the first time I watched it. Yet I most likely will not watch it again for some time. Do I recommend it? If you are a major fan of Resident Evil then the answer is yes. If not you might want to skip it. Please come back when I ranked all four of the CGI movies.
