January 31, 2001, Sega announced that they were leaving the console market and they are becoming a 3rd party company. It was one of the saddest days in gaming history. But how about it wasn’t? I wanted to this blog for a long time now. I did blogs on how to save both the Sega Saturn and Dreamcast from their sad fates. What could had been if the Dreamcast was a big hit or at least it was successful enough for Sega to keep making consoles. Now I will speculate what would happen if Sega had a console after the Dreamcast.
First off I need a name of it. Of course I have no idea what Sega would have name it. I came up with two names. I love the name Sega Vision. It sounds so classy and elegant. I know that to the masses that name would sound stupid. So, I am going with my second choice. For the rest of the blog I will name Sega’s new console, the Sega Titan.
In this era, the Titan would have gone up against the PS3, 360, and winner of that era the Wii. So I have to put that into consideration when how the Titan will compete in this time period. When would the Titan had come out. If the Dreamcast was successful, I think it would have lasted from 1999 to 2005. All three systems released in November 2005. I think it would been best for the Titan to have a head start on their competitors. I would release it on April 15, 2005. The price will be $399.99. It will come will a wired controller, standard AV cables, a headset that connects to the controller, an USB cable for charging the controller, and 20GB of internal storage.
Now let’s talk more about the Titan itself. I will not really go into detail about the technology. Iwill said that it will be a little less powerful than both the PS3 and the 360. The reason is that I want the keep the price low. Yet it will be more powerful than the Wii. The system will have a build in disc drive. Like with the PS3, the Titan will play both DVDs and music CDs. One of the big features is that the Titan will be backwards compatible with Dreamcast games. So Dreamcast owners can easily move to the Titan. As you know I hate the Dreamcast controller. The titan controller with be very different from the Dreamcast controller. It will be more like the 360 controllers. With two joysticks, four shoulder buttons, and one director pad. Yes, folks the Titan will have an online store. The system will have two controller ports in it. The Titan will have more ports to it. The store will have 3rd party games and games that came from all of the past Sega systems.
Now for the accessories. The Titan will have a wireless controller that will sell for $50. Extra headsets with different colors will be available as well. With HD now a thing, a HDMI cable will be sold separately. For the big one, they will be an external storage add on too. It will be 60GB. With the Wii being a major hit, Sega will have a motion controller to complete against the Wii. I will call it the Sega groove.
For the games themselves. With Sega still in the console race, all of the games that went to the other systems will now be exclusives for the Titan. Like Shenmue 2 and Billy Hatcher and giant egg for example. For the groove controller, games like space channel 5 and Daytona USA will work for it. The Titan will have 3rd party games like Final Fantasy XIII and GTA San Andres. For the launch titles, the first and the most important one is Sonic adventure 3. Other launch titles will be Burning rangers 2, Virtua cop 2, Vectorman 3, a new Ecco the dolphin, a new Virtua fighter, and Streets of rage 4. The Titan will have new Sega IPs and returning titles like Shining star, Bug, Clockwork knight, and more.
