the super mario bros galaxy movie review

Happy Easter everyone. I hope you enjoy this day. I wanted to see the galaxy movie last week. Yet I had started a new job, and I could not see the movie last week. I had today off so I finally went to see the movie. Going into this I was scared because the reviews of the movie is mixed. The mainstream critics hated it like the first film. Mainly because the movie wasn’t woke. If there was a lesbian kiss between Peach and Rosalina, moron critics like John Campea and Grace Randolph would give the movie a 11 out of 10. Even some of the YouTube critics that I trust hate the movie. Ultimately, it’s up to me if I like the movie or not. They will be a few mild spoilers.

Actually I will start with the negatives. First is Yoshi. He was introduce in the first few minutes of the film. We learned how he got into the world but we don’t learn anything at all about him. Also, he was accepted by Mario and Luigi just like that. They should have been trust issues that if the two of them can have Yoshi has a friend. The structure is unbalanced. Early on the movie was jumping between two stories too many times.

One of the big issues is the story. The story is basic. Too basic. Yes, this is a kids movie and this is Mario not Shakespeare. There should be more meat to the bone to the story. The other big issue is the lack of character development. Both Bowser and Bowser Jr got the most development. Rosalina and Peach got a bit. Mario had very little development. It was important to the story, but it was never resolved. Poor Luigi, Toad, and Yoshi got zip, nothing, and zero development. Again, this is not Shakespeare, but we needed to see that the characters grown and development more.

These are a lot of negatives but there are positives to the film too. All of the action scenes are great. Especially the final fights at the end. I loved that Mario and Luigi use all of those power up suits. I also loved that the movie expanded the Mario universe. Seeing all the planets from the galaxy games is awesome. From seeing characters from other games, to can tell that they are expanding to other Nintendo games. Maybe they will get a movie or at least a TV show. It was great to see all of the Easter eggs in the movie, especially if you are a Nintendo fan.

The voice acting was amazing. Everyone from the first movie like Jack Black and Charlie Day bought their A game once again. The newcomers were great as well. The one that voiced Bowser Jr (sorry I don’t remember his name) is very good. I was surprised that how good Glen Powell played Fox McCloud. I didn’t like that Fox was cocky and full of himself at first, but his cocky personality grows on me. The best one Bire Larson playing Rosalina. She 100% nailed it.

I can understand why the reviews are mixed. What is my opinion? I think that this is a very good movie despite the issues the flick has. I still think that the first one is better than the second one. I will encourage you to go to your local movie place and see it. By the huge box office opening weekend, they will most likely be a third Mario movie. Hopefully they can fix the issues from the second movie.
