I only watched two resident evil CGI movies. I liked degeneration but hated damnation. Then death island was announced. When I saw that Jill was returning, I decided to give it a shot. I rented the movie online. Is it good? Let’s find out in my spoiler free review. The film takes place in San Francisco in 1995. Jill, Chris, Claire, Leon, and Rebecca all ultimately meet up at Alcatraz in order to stop another bad guy from releasing the T virus upon the world.
The one thing that I fear the most about the movie was that they were going to make Jill an overpower Mary Sue and a girl boss. Luckly that didn’t happen. In fact all of the main characters have mostly equal time in the spotlight. All of the interactions between the main characters were good. Chris and Clarie, Chris, Clarie, and Rebecca, and Jill and Chris. Too me the best one was between Jill and Leon as this was the first time ever, they meet each other.
The fight scenes were a little over the top but they were good. Especially the final fight against the main villain. It felt like fighting the final boss in a resident evil game. For the movie being about 90 minutes, the pacing was good.
Now for the downsize which is Jill. Don’t get me wrong I love Jill, but I wish they put a little more focus on her. Once again I like the fact that everyone got equal time. A little more of the limelight needed to be on Jill. This was her first time back in action after RE5. She did talk to Chris about it but I wanted more. Maybe we could had seen a couple of scenes of her having PTSD flashbacks with her being under Albert’s control. Also I wish that Clarie had a little more to do.
Overall, I liked the movie. Should you buy it? If you are a die-hard fan of the series, then I said yes. If you are on the fence, then I would recommend renting it first.
