Last Thursday the game awards aired and all I could said is, Geoff I want my three hours back that you took from me. Except for last year I watched every game award since it began. All of the past shows were at least entertaining but this year? This year show was nothing short of a massive pile of trash. Heck I rather watch people pick up actually trash then watch this again.
Before I really go on a rant, I do need to talk about the few and a mean the few positives about this so call awards show. There were a few good trailers for upcoming games. Games like Wonder woman, Steel rising, A plague tale requiem, Dying light 2, The lord of the rings golem, Destiny 2 the witch queen, and Sonic frontiers. The orchestra music was amazing. Finally for the only real highlight of the show was the reveal of the new Sonic the hedgehog 2 movie.
That’s enough of the positive, now let’s rip this sorry ass excuse for an award show apart. The show was way too long badly pace, boring, zero charm, no fun, and have stuff that should not be in the show in the first place. This feels like another E3 event. First the movie trailers. The new sonic movie is fine since the movie is based on a game. Of course there was the trailer for the new matrix movie. Yet a new matrix game is coming out I can let that slide. Yet another trailer for another movie I can’t let it slide. I don’t the name but unless it’s tie to an upcoming, it had no business being at the show.
Then the music. I already said that the orchestra music was amazing but why do we need sting and a band that I don’t care about performing. Then the trailers, some of them I like but they were too many of them. A couple of them Hell blade 2 and Alan Wake 2 won’t be out till 2023. Overall there wasn’t that one big major game trailer that would have shock the gaming world. Then the awards show didn’t feel like an award show. Hell, they rapid fire awards in a ten-minute time span. Thought out the show I wondered why they were handing out awards in the first place. Again this feels like another E3 event.
The big one. Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft didn’t show up. Yeah we saw a little bit of Horizon from Sony and Hell blade from Microsoft. Nintendo didn’t bother showing up. I knew that Nintendo wasn’t going to show anything new breath of the wild game, a trailer from a new game, or something from an upcoming game like Kirby or Splatoon 3. I think that the big three just don’t care about the show anymore.
I understand that the awards show is a business and Geoff needs to make money, but the show was just crap. Maybe Geoff can get someone else to work on the show and he can just work on getting the companies to show the trailers.
